I keep forgetting to make this post.

ANYWAY. Floriography. Azeroth plants. LET'S DO IT

Edit: 10/10/10 -- making this sticky so I can find it. Also adding a link to the thread I had going on wyrmrestaccord.net so I can find said thread and update this from the contents of that.
2/10/17 -- really making this sticky, updating the above link to the wyrmrestaccord.org archive, and adding the archive link for the LoF site that I usually use for Earth plants: In the Garden.

To-do:
* Pull over full list from archived WrA.net thread
* Add flowers in thread replies there not originally included in the top-level list
* Add herbalism plants for Cataclysm – Legion
* Add quest & food plants
* Get meanings(!!!)
* Create table to index meanings for multiple races/groups

The goblin mafia, I imagine, sends a vial of Grave Moss in the mail as a threat - like the Black Spot, if you've ever read Treasure Island.

And you're like "There's a goblin mafia? I've never heard of it." And I'm like "That's right. YOU HAVEN'T. And I didn't tell you about it, neither. Capice?"

Oh, except Forsaken. They like Grave Moss. They get sent Arthas' Tears. Which, by the way, normally symbolize "I am totally breaking up with you, possibly because you slaughtered an entire village."

Winterbite is scorn. You send Winterbite instead of a reply when your boyfriend asks why you sent him Arthas' Tears. IT WAS ONLY ONE VILLAGE, COME ONNNNN.

Peacebloom is the start of something new, or perhaps forgiveness. Bruiseweed is the opposite; the end of something or a lack of forgiveness.

One of the things about fliography in the Azerothian world is that I suspect that different plants will speak different things to the cultures, like Jazlow pointed out with forsaken having a different outlook to Gravemoss. It would also be neat to see several different racial/cultural takes on certain plants.

Khadgar's Whisker is sent with the meaning of Cautious Reflection and Wisdom; when the sender wishes the receiver to be blessed with the ability to make the right, unhasty decision or to see with the clarity of wisdom, though this decision would not necessarily be the sender's wishes. I believe this to be a human following, though also some elves may also follow this practice.

Ghost Mushroom is given the nomenclature of 'Obscurity' by most races. This could be all sorts of obscurity, from 'never being marked in the history books' to 'may your enemies have a hard time finding you'.

Plaguebloom is never sent, ever. Despite this, it's become known as the 'Suffering Guardian'. This dubious honor exists as it is sometimes planted in places to serve as a cautionary warning as it thrives in desecrated, plagued lands. To see the stuff blossoming is a deterrent, a 'here lies danger that may be unseen but for this plant' warning. To some, its ability to 'find taint' is considered a silver lining.

I will have more later. I hope I have understood fliography right.

Extra thought: Plaguebloom's alternate name could be the Suffering Peacekeeper as well. Perhaps the draenei use that expression. Well in my mind for some reason Plaguebloom isbasically blighted Peacebloom which is why it pops up but I could be wrong about the derivation of the plant anyway.

Mountain silversage means wisdom, enlightenment, and being at one with the elements; like gurus who go on a spirit quest, it grows at remote places in the mountains, far from distraction. Among Wildhammer dwarves, it is said that when the color of your beard matches the flower, the mountain has accepted you as a sage.

Nightdragon means good intentions gone horribly awry, the path to hell being paved by such, Neltharion. It can also mean "I recognize your good intentions, but this path will lead to ruin." Neltharion.

Dragonspine means strength of will; you sir, have the balls of a drake.

Spineleaf means the opposite, cowardice or weakness. Giving someone spineleaf is saying: grow one, you pussy.

Blindweed means prosperity through unknown means, or "you have missed something, something very obvious." You have grown and you have blossomed, but hey: there is something you don't know. Also, "You have much to learn, Grasshopper."

Dreamfoil might possibly mean the loss of hope: your dreams have been foiled. It might also be carried to ward off the BAD dreams, so not necessarily a bad thing. Loss of hope, or a ward against the subconscious. Maybe dried means the former, fresh means the latter.

Kingsblood means loyalty; rumor has it that wherever it blooms, someone who at all costs would not betray his Lord is now or was once buried.

Oh hay! I found an herb that isn't in the list, I think: Wyrmtail which is from a quest in Mudsprocket. It picked up on my herb finding so I figure it's a herb.

(Also may I suggest an addition to Embersong's excellent Kingsblood that it's not oly where someone was buried but where someone died/falled?)

Derp. It's 8am and I haven't slept yet, so of COURSE there are some typos in there.

"Bloodthistle: desperate, potentially yearning."
should read
"Bloodthistle: desperate, potentially dangerous yearning. 'I want you no matter what the risks are...to either or us.' KINDA CREEPY."
